Rachel Grey - Jean Grey School

After returning from space Rachel Grey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Summers) hung out at the Jean Grey School in Wolverine And The X-Men, but was only shown teaching once that I can remember. She probably spent the rest of her time seeing a therapist to try and figure out why she likes spikes so much. Despite the fact that they were part of her original hound costume; given to her by the people that imprisoned, tortured and forced her to hunt down other mutants to be slaughtered.

Getting The Look
Even though this costume makes no sense from a character perspective, I still love it. Pouches, the spikes, a jacket which is really just long strips of material whipping around... What's not to love.

For this look to work your character will need to be on the hero side, as Zonewalker styles are hero exclusive. Zonewalker chest and shoulder pieces can be purchased from a vendor in the Watchtower once you reach level 30, for cheap marks.

There are very few shoulders styles currently in game that feature spikes. And of these, only Zonewalker looks anything like the tiny shoulder spikes featured on Rachel's jacket. I tried Master Mercenary, which does give you one big spike on each shoulder, but it's too clunky and overwhelms the rest of the look.
Slim Gold Auras drop from lockboxes, can be purchased from the Broker relatively cheaply, or can be bought for Station Cash from the Marketplace. Buying auras in this way means you can use them on all of your characters, without ever having to purchase them again. So if you have a few alts this is probably the best way to go. The aura is optional, but looks great when flying around and adds to the illusion of 'levitating telekinetically'.

Retro Tech hands and Fourth World legs drop pretty frequently as you are levelling, or again can be bought from the Broker inexpensively. Paramilitary waist is a character creation style, or can be purchased from style vendors in the Watchtower.

Aeronaut Variant feet drop from the Vault, so chances are you will pick them up by the time you hit level 30 if you do it everyday. Otherwise you can buy them from PvP armor vendors.

Amazon Strategos back requires that you have the Amazon Fury, Part 1 DLC, and that you have a CR of 100 or more. Once you have enough marks you can buy it from the armor vendor in Gotham Under Siege.

Finally, one of the things that really makes this look work for me is the Darcy hairstyle, a perfect match for Rachel's oddly old-fashioned Alan Davis created bob.

Even though Rachel had no connection to the Phoenix at this point her powers were still represented with fiery energy, so Fire is the best fit. There are plenty of powers within either tree to knock back, juggle and otherwise simulate telekinesis and telepathy. Plus Fire, while sucky as a powerset, looks great.

Accuracy and Playability
Looks great in motion: 8/10. Fire is probably the weakest power in the game currently, but still a ton of fun: 10/10.

  1. Finally. I was checking this in hopes to get a new entry! Rachel looks awesome. I tried this costume with gunslinger chest (pvp retired style) and looks sweet. You lose the pouches belts but win the trenchcoat neck. Also lose the cape with the phoenix strips but you can use atlatean monarch to have a couple of them without being over the top.
Would love to see your take on demonic Magik using horns and satyr legs. And Polaris, more Scarlet Witch or Lady Mandarin/Revanche. Keep them coming handsome ;)

  2. I just want to say i really love all of your character creations. They all look more accurate than any other versions i have seen in the game. So far i have used your styles for Jean Grey 90's, Rachel phoenix but building towards this one, storm uncanny, rogue legacy (just finished technology is the future collection omg the struggle is real), magik, hope summers and scarlet witch pink and red and building towards her uncanny for her dps costume later.

I seriously love your site and want to say thanks for helping me make my favorite super heroines as comic book accurate as possible. I am a huge marvel fan and love that you help guide me into making my marvel women look their absolute best.

I cant wait to see more! Hopefully you can do a Polaris, Siryn, Snowbird, Mercury, Wallflower and Sage
