Jean Grey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Grey) is the original female X-Man (or X-Woman if you want to be sexist). Her hobbies include moving things with her mind, not having great code names and saying "Scott!" and then passing out. Currently: super dead.
Getting The Look
Jean Grey's Jim Lee designed costume is easily my favourite the character has worn. Most people know it, with a slight alteration to the headpiece, from the 90's X-Men animated series. This version looks great, is almost exactly comic book accurate and is heaps of fun to run around in. It's also kind of hard to put together.
The good news first... The head piece, waist and feet are all available at character creation. The Sinestro hands drop more often than not as you are levelling your way through the Green Lantern storyline. If they don't you can buy them cheaply on the Marketplace.
Bad news... The chest and leg pieces are rare drops from the Flashback duo. You need to be CR 53 and have the Lightning Strikes DLC. Then run the duo over and over again until they drop (it's taken me about 40 times to get both pieces). The next problem is that Segmented Flexsuit is a tank only style (that means you need to be one of the tank powersets to equip it). I suggest choosing Fire at character creation (you could run around as Phoenix!), playing until you have the styles equipped and then switching to Mental.
The Sharpshooter shoulders are annoying more than difficult to obtain. You can only get them from the Vault. It's a matter of running it everyday until they eventually drop for you.
Because the Segmented Flexsuit legs have blue around the feet you need to cover it with a shoe style. This version of Jean doesn't wear heels, but the Heeled style is the best fit. Likewise the belt and shoulders, while not perfect, are the best matches in game.
The aura is technically optional. Jean still looks great without it, but looks amazing with it, especially while flying.

Body type is Monarch small. I chose Powerful for Personality type but Serious works as well.
Power, Movement and Weapon Choice
Jean Grey's power is obviously mental. Within that you have a lot of choice. You can be a DPS or a controller and focus on either the Illusion or Telekinesis trees, depending on whether you like your Jean Grey more telepathic or telekinetic. You can mix and match between the two, but your gameplay won't be nearly as effective and there's really no reason to. I like my Jean Grey smashing stuff with her mind, so I went with telekinesis. Mass Levitation and Telekinetic Bolt are good choices, fun to play, and look great with this toon. Pink Hand Blasters make great telekinetic beams.
Flying is much more comic book appropriate, but if you really wanted you could pick acrobatics (and be wrong). Either way you don't need powers from the movement tree.

Accuracy and Playability
This look is almost exact, except for the three really minor complaints: 1. The belt, 2. The shoulders and 3. The damn heels. Still this is both a great look and an accurate one. 9/10. Play wise this one is a slam dunk as well. Hardcore telekinesis and hand blasters feel exactly like what I imagine a perfect Jean Grey would play like. Focusing on either Telekinesis or Illusion trees allows for very competitive PvP and PvE builds: 10/10!

Best Jean Grey I've seen EVER made with DCUO.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, I'm a fan of this blog ^^
Jean was my first character and this is my absolute favorite of her costumes. I acurrently have the t slime and retro tech legs but wasnt 100% happy because the color didnt come down into the crotch area like yours and also that the color on the shoulders didnt reachy shoulder pads lol. Everything is perfect but have you tried i believe the kabuki style shoulders? Imo they are much more accurate for this costume since they extend past the shoulder and come to a point and are not overly huge like hers in the comics.
ReplyDeleteThis character has the wrong body type, shoulders, aura and belt. Their are new styles and some old styles in the game which would look better for Ms Grey. As far as that body type being wrong...Jean is not short she have a big oversized head.
